What we collect

Evidence Companion collects only what is necessary to operate the platform:

  • Your email address — used only for authentication (magic link sign-in) and essential platform communications.
  • The content you create — incidents, evidence files, testimony sessions, and case notes you enter into the platform.
  • Basic usage data — page visits and feature interactions, used to improve the platform. This data is not sold or shared with advertisers.
  • Hashed IP addresses — stored in audit logs for security purposes. Raw IP addresses are never stored.

How your data is stored

Your case records, evidence files, and testimony are stored securely on servers located in the United States. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Evidence files are stored in isolated, access-controlled storage and are never accessible to other users.

Who can see your records

Only you can access your records by default. You control who you share with:

  • Secure share links give read-only access to a specific person (attorney, DA, advocate) for a time period you choose.
  • You can revoke access at any time.
  • Recipients cannot edit, delete, or download your original files without your export.
  • Evidence Companion staff do not access your case content in the ordinary course of operations. Access may occur in limited circumstances — such as responding to a verified legal process or diagnosing a technical issue you have reported.

AI processing

The companion AI and classification features use Anthropic's Claude API. Your testimony and case content is transmitted to Anthropic's servers for processing under an enterprise API agreement that prohibits training on your data. Your content is not used to train AI models.

Data retention and deletion

You can export and delete your records at any time from within the platform. If you delete your account, your case records and evidence files are permanently deleted. Audit logs may be retained for a limited period for security and legal compliance purposes.

Third-party services

Evidence Companion uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
  • Anthropic — AI companion and document processing
  • OpenAI Whisper — audio transcription (optional feature)
  • DigitalOcean — hosting and infrastructure

We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not serve advertising.
