Important

This is not legal advice.

We want to be completely clear about what Evidence Companion is — and what it is not.

What Evidence Companion is

Evidence Companion is a documentation tool. It helps you organize what happened, preserve evidence, and build a structured record. That's it.

It is not a law firm. It is not staffed by attorneys. It does not provide legal advice. Using it does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone.

What the AI companion is

The companion is an AI guide trained to help you document your experience clearly and completely. It asks questions the way a skilled interviewer would — not to challenge you, but to help you capture detail that matters to a legal record.

The companion will never tell you whether you have a legal case. It will never tell you whether something is illegal. It will never advise you to take a specific legal action. Those are questions for a licensed attorney who knows your jurisdiction and your specific situation.

If the companion says something that sounds like legal advice, that is a malfunction — not guidance you should rely on.

What your record is

The records you create on Evidence Companion are your records. They reflect your account of what happened. They are not verified by Evidence Companion, and they are not authenticated by any court or law enforcement agency.

A well-organized, detailed record can be valuable to an attorney, investigator, or advocate. Whether it is admissible in any particular proceeding, and what legal weight it carries, depends on facts and laws that Evidence Companion cannot evaluate for you.

Find an attorney

If you need legal advice, please speak with a licensed attorney. Some resources that may help:

  • Your state or local bar association's lawyer referral service
  • Legal aid organizations in your area (many offer free or low-cost services)
  • Law school clinics, which often take cases at no cost
  • Victim advocacy organizations, many of which have staff attorneys or attorney referral networks

If you are in immediate danger: Call 911 or your local emergency number. Evidence Companion is not an emergency service. View crisis resources →
